I have recently completed a three year Clinical Somatic Movement Education with Martha Peterson of Essential Somatics. My background has been in Physical Education, massage, Pilates and many different explorations of fitness and movement.
I have come to the conclusion that guiding people to use techniques that help them take control of their own wellbeing is the most useful thing I can do. This is why I now teach Somatic Movement.
Move without Pain - 3.5hrs
Somatic Movement Education based on the work of Thomas Hanna.
Suds Sutherland will guide you on an exploration of Somatic Movement discovering how the Hanna Somatics approach to pain relief is most likely different from any other method you've tried up until now.
We will explore: Chronic muscle pain. Sensory motor amnesia. The 3 reflexive patterns of holding. How the brain can reprogramme your muscles to release and lengthen and improve their function. Pandiculation - the technique Hanna used - lengthening the muscles safely without stretching.
Somatics is educating how the nervous system creates chronic muscle tension leading to sensory motor amnesia. This sensory motor amnesia holds the body in stress related reflexive patterns preventing us from functioning with ease and creating many of the aches, pains and stiffness that most of us suffer from daily.
You will explore a few self-care movements that will allow you to have more awareness and control over how your body (soma) functions.
If time allows, we will explore some self-care for those over used and abused massage shoulders, arms and hands.
