Our purpose is to promote massage therapy and the ongoing development of the massage industry in New Zealand through educating the public about the benefits of massage therapy for health and wellness and supporting the public to access high quality massage therapy through our database of MANZ registered Massage Therapists.

Benefits of choosing a MANZ therapist

Membership Levels

Registered members

1. Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) Levels 7 (3 years full-time / 3,600 hours)

(Previously called Remedial Massage Therapist)

Hold a national (NZQA) Degree (Level 7) or equivalent in Therapeutic Massage.
Has a theoretical knowledge base in Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and the Theory of Massage.
Must have completed a minimum of 100 supervised massage clinical hours during massage training or post-graduation.

Requirements are:

  • (NZQA) Degree (Level 7) or equivalent in Therapeutic Massage;
  • A current First Aid Certificate including CPR (should include unit standards 6401 and 6402);
  • Continued professional development (CPD) - 40 hours per two years

2. Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) Levels 6 (2 years full-time / 2,400 hours)

(Previously called Remedial Massage Therapist)

Hold a national (NZQA) Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent in Therapeutic Massage.
Has a theoretical knowledge base in Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and the Theory of Massage.
Must have completed a minimum of 100 supervised massage clinical hours during massage training or post-graduation.

  • (NZQA) Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent in Therapeutic Massage;

3. Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) Level 5 (1 year full-time / 1,200 hours)

(Previously called Certified Massage Therapist)

Holds a National (NZQA) Diploma in Wellness & Relaxation Massage (Level 5) or equivalent.
Has a theoretical knowledge base in Human Anatomy, Physiology and the Theory of Massage, and a practical massage competency. Must have completed a minimum of 50 supervised massage clinical hours during massage training or post-graduation.

Requirements are:

  • (NZQA) Diploma in Wellness & Relaxation Massage (Level 5) or equivalent;
  • A current First Aid Certificate including CPR (should include unit standards 6400, 6401 and 6402);
  • Continued professional development (CPD) - 40 hours per two years.

Non-registered members

1. Affiliate Level of Membership

This membership is for anyone who would like to receive the MANZ Magazine (e.g. training establishments; other associations; health related businesses). This level of membership is not available to individual therapists or massage businesses.

No requirements.

Affiliates:

  • Are offered a free reciprocal link with the MANZ website;
  • Receive discounts on website and magazine advertising;
  • Receive the MANZ magazine email news.

2. Student level of membership

Must be currently studying massage therapy, either full-time or part-time at an NZQA approved training provider. Students must apply for membership at least 3 months prior to conclusion of their course.

Requirements:

  • Proof of student status (letter from NZQA approved training provider confirming enrolment in a programme of massage therapy education - NZQA level 5-7. Please note, students studying below level 5 or training with a non-NZQA approved provider of massage therapy training are not eligible for MANZ membership)

Student members:

  • Receive the MANZ magazine & mini email news;
  • Receive information about courses and job opportunities;
  • Have access to a wide range of member benefits and discounts with MANZ preferred suppliers;
  • Have access to the members' area of the website and the resources contained within;
  • Receive an annual certificate of membership at Student level (this does not serve as an Annual Practising Certificate).

Life membership

Those MANZ members who have made an exceptional contribution to the massage industry.

Life members are nominated and the decision to award someone life membership is via voting at an AGM, where the nominated must be endorsed by at least a 75% majority vote. There can only be a maximum of 12 people holding life membership at any one time.

Requirements:

  • Must have held MANZ membership for at least 5 years prior to the nomination;
  • Must be nominated by two current financial members of MANZ;
  • Continued professional development (CPD) if would like to receive a practising certificate;
  • No fees are charged as life membership because it is bestowed on an individual by MANZ.

Life members:

  • Receive the MANZ magazine and email news;
  • Receive an MANZ permanent Life Member certificate.
