A1 - Carolyn Palmer NZROT, NZRHT
I trained as an Occupational therapist in 1997 having worked for Waikato DHB for almost 18 years, specializing in Hand therapy since 2002.
My passion is in treating clients with trauma and clients with chronic or complex conditions. Part of my clinical work has been teaching and consulting on complex rheumatoid hands. Recently I began working in the neurological splinting clinic within the WDHB.
I enjoy teaching and making the "medical" understandable for clients, carers and students.
I look forward to presenting and running an informative and interactive workshop.Hands: Self-care and joint protection - 2hrs
For most of us who work in the health sector, we are good at looking after our clients, ensuring that their needs are met and that they leave our service at least feeling better than when they arrived. Unfortunately, we are not always so good at looking after ourselves.
This workshop aims to improve participants understanding of basic hand anatomy, joint movement and loading and joint protection techniques as well as gentle tension relieving (trigger pointing) exs.
The workshop content includes: Anatomy of the thumb, common extensor tendinopathies, education, practical, and discussion.
