NZIER Report Media Release

Dear Members,

Earlier in the year many of you generously donated money to help MNZ contribute our share of the cost towards a landmark paper between AHANZ and the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER.)

The aim was to put together a document that best represented Allied Health professionals and our potential to work alongside (and within) primary health care. This was not only a collective paper, instead it would also acknowledge those individual professions who contributed time (us) and financially (also us) who would get their own unique document specific to their profession.

It was easy for MNZ, and AHANZ as a collective group, to see the value in having such a reputable source publish a paper on our behalf, especially as it was aimed towards those who make health care decisions here in Aotearoa New Zealand. As the report came together it was clear that this indeed was a valuable engagement. Our expected one page document turned out to be a two-pager titled "Hidden in plain sight: Optimising the role of remedial massage therapy in the future health and disability system."

We are now excited to finally announce the official launch of the NZIER report!

This was due to occur on Wednesday the 23rd June, at the Great Hall in Parliament but was cancelled as Wellington entered Covid Alert Level 2. We still expect it to go ahead at some stage and your invited MNZ representatives will be Helen Smith, Iselde de Boam, Sarah Rule and Allison Anderson.

The paper is now published and available to view (you will be able to cite this paper if it is relevant to your own research). Click on the pdfs attached below.

Hidden in plain sight: Optimising the role of remedial massage therapy in the future health and disability system.

Hidden in plain sight: Optimising the allied health professions for better, more sustainable integrated care

We are very proud of the effort that went into this report! Countless hours and so much work done behind the scenes. We wish to give a hearty 'Thank You' to all involved, especially those MNZ volunteers who dedicated their time over the Christmas and New Year break.

We hope you join us, in proudly sharing this outcome.
